Missile Tests Ahead of Armitage Visit

May 10, 2003|From Times Wire Reports

India test-fired an air-to-air missile only hours before Deputy Secretary of State Richard L. Armitage arrived in New Delhi to encourage the unfolding peace initiatives between nuclear-armed India and Pakistan.

Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee has said his country was seeking friendship with Pakistan, but would move prudently toward restoring relations. Sources at India's Defense Ministry said another missile test was scheduled within the next two days, according to the Press Trust of India.
