Do the Right Thing for a Foster Child

May 18, 2003

In addition to the (very worthy) suggestions in "Go to Bat for a Foster Child" (editorial, May 14), I would add three things people can do to help: Contact your state legislator to urge passage of SB 591, which would entitle foster parents and relative caretakers to receive basic information about the children in their care; voice support for the elimination of outdated confidentiality rules that shield the system from public scrutiny; and write a check to one of the many deserving charitable organizations working to reform the system and to improve life for our state's 110,000 foster children.
