Charities Collect Over $150,000 at Festival

May 23, 2003|From Times Staff Reports

Charities providing game and food booths at Thousand Oaks' Conejo Valley Days made more than $150,000 this year despite fierce rains that closed the western-themed event for the second time in its 40-year history. "We're extremely happy with the numbers," said event Chairman Scott Wolfe.

"Because we had to reschedule to Mother's Day weekend, we knew we'd be down. The nonprofits, however, were still able to make money,'' she said.

Total proceeds were down a third from 2002, and early figures suggest carnival ride sales were down by less than 10%.
