IN BRIEF / TEXAS

Houston's school district, which has been under criticism for underreporting dropout rates, is making improvements in how it trains its staff and tracks dropouts, a Texas Education Agency monitor said.

The state investigation into the district's student-data collection came after a state lawmaker questioned claims by a few schools, including Sharpstown High School, that they had no dropouts.
