November 21, 2003|Lonnie White

Rookie UCLA Coach Karl Dorrell, who has participated in this series as a player, makes his debut on the sideline. This is another in a five-day look at past UCLA and USC coaches in their rivalry debuts:

DID YOU KNOW?

In 1966, USC was heavily favored to defeat UCLA, which started Norman Dow in place of injured All-American quarterback Gary Beban. Dow broke a scoreless tie, running five yards to a touchdown in the third quarter, then, with less than 10 minutes remaining, Dow's running highlighted a long UCLA drive that was capped by a touchdown on a reverse run by Cornell Champion. The next week, USC was voted into the Rose Bowl despite the 14-7 loss.
