Grant to Help Victims of Domestic Violence

October 02, 2003|From Times Staff Reports

The city will be able to assign a police detective and city prosecutor full time to enforcing protective orders in domestic violence cases, thanks to a $500,000 federal grant announced Wednesday by Mayor James K. Hahn.

The funds from the U.S. Department of Justice also will help provide crisis intervention and support services to domestic violence victims in the Los Angeles Police Department's 77th Street and Southwest divisions, where incidences of the crime are the highest.

"It is only through strict enforcement of protective orders that victims and their families can be protected from further violence at the hands of their abusers," Hahn said.
