Celebrity shoots

October 09, 2003|Susan Carpenter

William Shatner, better known as Captain Kirk of the Starship Enterprise, is also known to pick up a camera on occasion, shooting photos of friends and colleagues on set. Henry Winkler, formerly the Fonz, takes some pretty decent landscape photos. Supermodel Tyra Banks often shoots portraits.

Who knew celebrities could be as comfortable behind the camera as they are in front of it? But more than a few are. And more than a few of them have posted their work on the Take Great Pictures Web site (www.takegreatpictures.com).

"I figured it would be good to have celebs on the site because people admire them and would be encouraged to take photos if they knew celebrities did," said Richard Rabinowitz, who founded the site in 1999. The site's first celebrity pictures were by former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani. Rabinowitz then tracked down actor Jeff Bridges, an accomplished photographer represented by L.A.'s Rose Gallery. New celebrity photos are added once a month.
