Changes keep coming to Oahu

October 12, 2003

Rosemary McCLURE'S article "A Sea Change on Oahu" [Sept. 27] was interesting to me because I lived in Hawaii between 1931 and 1934, and again between 1950 and 1962. The statement regarding the Moana Surfrider Hotel is misleading: Originally, the Moana stood alone. About 1950-51, the Surfrider was built next door. When I visited Hawaii in 1987, I noticed the two were combined into the Moana Surfrider.

The old Moana was famous for many years for its Banyan Court facing the beach, from which the radio show "Hawaii Calls" was broadcast.
