A Huntington Beach man was arrested after he fled the scene of a freeway accident that killed one person and injured seven others, California Highway Patrol officials said Saturday.

Stephen Irving, 30, was jailed on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, drunk driving and felony hit-and-run driving.

Police said Irving was northbound on the San Diego Freeway near Culver Drive when he slammed into a Honda Civic about 6:50 p.m. Friday. The Honda crashed into a Suburban, ejecting passenger Linda Rojas, 31, who died at the scene.

Six other passengers in the Suburban were taken to hospitals with major injuries. The driver of the Honda suffered minor injuries.
