Los Angeles Marymount, winner of three major tournament titles, is not expected to be challenged the remainder of the season or in the Southern Section or state playoffs because it plays in a relatively weak division. Long Beach Wilson was upset by Lakewood, which allows Long Beach Poly to stay in contention in the Moore League race. Huntington Beach Edison defeated Los Alamitos a second time and plays host to Anaheim Esperanza on Wednesday. Torrance Bishop Montgomery, Manhattan Beach Mira Costa and Newport Harbor face tough competition at Santa Barbara tournament Friday and Saturday.

Upland makes a big jump after finishing fourth in the team sweepstakes race of the Mt. San Antonio College Invitational on Saturday. Illnesses to various runners had slowed Upland since the Irvine Woodbridge Invitational last month, but a healthy Highlander squad finished ahead of Murrieta Valley, Rancho Cucamonga, Canyon Country Canyon, Bellflower St. John Bosco, Dana Point Dana Hills, West Covina and Crescenta Valley at Mt. SAC. Murrieta Valley maintains its No. 3 ranking because the Nighthawks defeated Upland in three previous meets.

Corona del Mar switches places with Beverly Hills in the rankings thanks to a combination of the Sea Kings' victory over Laguna Beach and their schedule, which is stronger than the Normans'.

Newport Harbor rallied to defeat a talented Villa Park team, 10-8, on Tuesday, but failed to draw any ejections Saturday in a 13-10 overtime loss to La Jolla The Bishop's, a top San Diego Section team.
