THE NATION | IN BRIEF / GEORGIA

April 10, 2004|From Times Wire Reports

Gov. Sonny Perdue signed new child-protection legislation, allowing Georgia to shed its status as the only state without a law making it a felony for adults to endanger youngsters.

The bill is designed to punish adults whose behavior threatens the safety of children, such as leaving an infant in a hot car. Advocates had sought a child-endangerment law for four years.
