President Mbeki Takes Oath for Second Term

President Thabo Mbeki took an oath for a second term as South Africa celebrated 10 years of post-apartheid democracy, vowing to fight crushing poverty.

"Endemic and widespread poverty continues to disfigure the face of our country," said Mbeki, whose African National Congress was reelected in a landslide victory two weeks ago despite mounting problems with joblessness and AIDS.
