LETTERS TO THE TIMES

French Wisdom

August 18, 2004

Re "French Town Quietly Cheers on a Son: Kerry," Aug. 14: Sen. John Kerry's "French connection" will serve him well if he draws upon the wisdom of the French who were absolutely right in their assessment of insufficient evidence of Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction and the need for the rush to war in Iraq.

And Kerry's "Brittany connection" should serve him well if he draws upon the deep pride, spirituality and tenacity of this uniquely Celtic region of France.

Speaking as a descendant of French Bretons, I say Bienvenue ("Welcome," in French) to Kerry and Kenavo ("Goodbye," in Breton) to President Bush.
