No Word on Williams

August 19, 2004|Gary Klein

USC is still waiting for a decision regarding receiver Mike Williams, but the Trojans cannot blame the NCAA.

Coach Pete Carroll had said that the school planned to send final documentation regarding its request for a progress-toward-degree waiver and reinstatement of Williams' eligibility to the NCAA early this week.

But on Wednesday, Carroll said Williams' grades for two summer-session classes had not been posted.

"I heard 90% of the grades have to be in before they post them and obviously that's what they're waiting on," Carroll said. "Now, it could be done, but it hasn't been. They're just waiting on the word and then they send the stuff out."

Quarterback John David Booty is day to day because of numbness in his right elbow. Booty was hit on the elbow during practice.... Safety Darnell Bing and defensive lineman Chris Barrett, both of whom have been out because of sore shoulders, were cleared to practice.... The Trojans spent Wednesday night in a hotel as part of a simulated game preparation that concludes tonight with a scrimmage at the Coliseum.
