Pouring Ourselves Into Cement Production

August 29, 2004

In the article "Builders Seek End to Tariffs on Cement" (Aug. 12), what jumped out at me was the statement "American producers lack capacity to meet domestic demand."

The answer to the cement shortage, therefore, lies in increased domestic production that would create jobs here and not simply lifting tariffs to import cement more cheaply from other nations.
