US Airways Union Readies for Strike

IN BRIEF / LABOR

December 01, 2004|From Reuters

The national executive board of the Communications Workers of America, which represents 6,000 ticket, reservation and gate agents at US Airways, voted unanimously to let the union's president call a walkout, if necessary.

A strike could be ordered if US Airways Group Inc. voids the group's contract. The airline has asked a Bankruptcy Court judge to annul collective bargaining agreements covering airport ground workers, mechanics and flight attendants if the three unions do not voluntarily agree to concessions worth at least $500 million annually.

A hearing on the company's motion is scheduled Thursday in Alexandria, Va.
