Taliban Ex-Governor Arrested in Border Town

Pakistani authorities arrested a former Afghan provincial governor and close associate of fugitive Taliban leader Mullah Omar in a border town, a Pakistani official said.

Mullah Abdul Manan Khawajazai was picked up by Pakistani police and intelligence officers in Chaman, said Col. Basit, head of border security in the area.

Khalid Pashtun, a spokesman for the governor of the Afghan province of Kandahar, said there was no evidence linking Khawajazai to terrorist attacks since the Taliban was ousted in 2001.
