California lawmakers introduced a bill to bar cellphone companies from sharing customers' telephone numbers with telemarketers.
Four lawmakers introduced the bill in response to mobile-phone industry plans to compile a directory of cellphone numbers for about 75% of wireless customers nationwide. The lawmakers said the bill would preserve customer privacy and help hold down the cost of using cellphones.
