Hooked like wriggling flounders

March 30, 2004

Re "Foam and Chaos" (March 23): Even though I spent the better part of my 1960s youth at or near the Southern California beach, it wasn't until last summer (my 51st) that I finally got up the nerve to take surf lessons. Nathan Myers has captured the scene dead-on: We were pathetic floating lumps of humanity waging futile battle against tons of cold seawater. But we were hooked.
