Gov. John G. Rowland, plagued by a federal corruption investigation and legislative impeachment inquiry, has stepped down as chairman of President Bush's reelection campaign in Connecticut and will not lead the state's delegation to the GOP convention, a Republican Party representative said.
Rowland, a longtime Bush family friend, is the target of federal and legislative investigations into gifts he received and alleged contract manipulation.
