Police Shoot and Kill Beating Suspect

A Los Angeles police officer shot to death a man who allegedly charged at him with an ax, authorities said Sunday.

The man was suspected of battery.

Officers had been called to the scene of a beating Saturday night in South Los Angeles. They asked the suspect "to drop the ax, but he refused" and lunged, said Officer Don Cox.
