Tennessee junior starting safety Brandon Johnson was suspended indefinitely because he fired a gun into the air near the Knoxville, Tenn., campus.
Johnson, who intercepted two passes in Tennessee's 21-17 victory over Mississippi on Saturday, was arrested early Monday and charged with felony reckless endangerment after shooting the gun outside the apartment of tailback Cedric Houston, according to a police report.
Defensive back Chris Heath, who is sitting out the season on a medical redshirt, was charged with misdemeanor unlawful carrying of a firearm.
Heath was dismissed from the team. Coach Phillip Fulmer disciplined both players Monday.
USC's Shaun Cody and UCLA's Spencer Havner are among 12 finalists for the Lombardi Award, given to down linemen and those defensive players who line up within five yards of the ball.
Other notable finalists are Minnesota's Greg Eslinger and Ohio State's A.J. Hawk.
Hawaii quarterback Timmy Chang, who needs 559 yards to break the NCAA career passing yardage record, sat out practice because of an injury to his non-throwing shoulder, but will play Saturday against San Jose State.... Michael Robinson, Penn State's all-purpose offensive threat who suffered a concussion in a Sept. 25 loss at Wisconsin, has been cleared to play Saturday against Iowa.
