Sparks Tonight

September 01, 2004|Mike Terry

San Antonio, 7:30

Site -- Staples Center.

Radio --KWKU (1220).

Records -- Sparks 19-7; Silver Stars 6-20.

Record vs. Silver Stars -- 2-0.

Update -- While the rest of the WNBA battles to qualify for postseason play, the Silver Stars have eight games left that will serve as auditions. Interim Coach Shell Dailey is hoping to get the job full-time, and the players are battling for jobs next season. Guard Shannon Johnson, fresh off her gold-medal effort with the USA women's Olympic basketball team, is among them, although she may not want to stay for a long-term rebuilding project. San Antonio is in the best position to get the first pick in the draft and is probably eyeing University of Minnesota 6-5 center Janel McCarville. The Sparks are trying to earn home-court advantage throughout the playoffs.
