Middle Class' Key Role

September 09, 2004

Re "Late, Great Middle Class," Commentary, Sept. 6: To Republican business supporters of President Bush, the middle class is your market, stupid! Without a vibrant middle class the United States will not have domestic purchasing power to support the consumption necessary to stimulate domestic investment and a strong domestic economy. Ironically, by giving only meager benefits to the middle class, Bush's tax policies work against the much larger gains that a more robust domestic economy could provide you.
