Valencia Pounds Bishop Amat, 45-7

Junior quarterback Michael Herrick completed 29 of 45 passes for 397 yards and four touchdowns as Valencia High showed off its four-receiver, no-huddle offense in a 45-7 nonleague victory over La Puente Bishop Amat on Saturday at College of the Canyons.

Herrick connected on 10 consecutive passes in the first half as the Vikings (1-0) opened up a 28-7 lead.

The most impressive player other than Herrick was sophomore running back Shane Vereen. He rushed for 124 yards in 13 carries, scored on a 32-yard run and caught four passes for 43 yards in his first varsity game.

Edison 28, San Clemente 13 -- The Chargers turned three San Clemente turnovers into touchdowns in a nonleague victory at Huntington Beach High.

Edison (2-0) benefited from interceptions made by Dominique Vinson and Logan Galitski that set up two scores, and Austin Baca had an 18-yard fumble return for another touchdown. Vinson's interception led to a four-yard scoring run by Abel Cardona, who led all rushers with 84 yards in 21 carries. Edison quarterback Brian Shrock completed 10 of 21 passes for 110 yards.
