Customized workouts from the DVD menu

September 20, 2004|Jeannine Stein

The fitness video market offers thousands of workouts to choose from. But individual videos don't always offer variety in the routines. Two new "Ultimate Body" DVDs include menus of cardio, abdominal work and strength training that allow exercisers to customize their routines.

Ultimate Body: Both the "Beginning Workouts for Weight Loss" and the "Challenging Workouts for Weight Loss" are designed so viewers can pick and choose the exercises they want to do. The Boot Camp portion, for example, has two 25-minute routines, a full 45-minute routine and 10 minutes of abs. The strength-training segment has 10 minutes each of lower- and upper-body exercises, 10 minutes of abs and a full 30-minute routine. Fitness instructor Meghan White leads the workouts, which have easy-to-follow choreography and instruction on proper body placement.

"If you go to a class at a gym it might not fit your needs," says producer Michael Wohl. "This way, if you have tight shoulders one day and feel really tired, you can do a routine that suits you."

Price: $19.95 each; available at www.Amazon.com, Borders and www.bodywisdommedia.com.
