Ex-weatherman files bias suit

QUICK TAKES

September 24, 2004|From City News Service

In a lawsuit filed against NBC, KNBC-TV Channel 4 and its general manager, former weatherman Christopher Nance alleges he was the victim of discrimination at the station because he is black and read the Bible at work.

According to the L.A. Superior Court action filed this week, Nance claims he was fired on Dec. 27, 2002, because of race and his religious beliefs. He is asking for compensatory damages and wants the station ordered to rehire him.

The TV station called the lawsuit frivolous and "completely without merit. NBC and KNBC are deeply committed to maintaining a fair, diverse and harassment-free work environment."
