Declared Presidential Victory May Be in Doubt

With a little more than half the votes in Honduras' presidential election counted, the opposition candidate who was proclaimed the victor Monday was leading by less than 2 percentage points.

Manuel "Mel" Zelaya of the Liberal Party had 48.8%, compared with 47.2% for Porfirio "Pepe" Lobo Sosa of the ruling National Party of Honduras, according to the Supreme Electoral Tribunal.

The tribunal declared Monday that Zelaya had won, based on early returns. Lobo has refused to concede.
