1 Killed as Israel Fires on Palestinian Boat

An Israeli navy vessel fired on a Palestinian boat off the Gaza Strip, killing a 22-year-old man, Palestinian medics said.

The medics said the slain Palestinian was on a fishing trip. An Israeli military source said the boat had entered prohibited waters, ignored warning shots and orders to stop and then fired on the Israeli vessel, which shot back.

Gaza militants later shot rockets into southern Israel in response to the killing and Israel then fired two missiles into empty lots in the northern Gaza Strip. There were no casualties.
