Yahoo Hires Scientist to Set Up Research Office

Yahoo Inc. hired a scientist from the U.S. agency that invented the Internet to set up a research office in New York and improve the company's technology.

Ron Brachman, 56, a former scientist at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and AT&T Inc., will tackle challenges including improving Yahoo's online advertising systems and search results.

He will be vice president of worldwide research operations, Yahoo said.
