Security Stepped Up Ahead of Christmas

Thousands of troops have been deployed to guard churches and places where foreigners gather in Indonesia, amid warnings that militants were planning terrorist attacks during Christmas.

Islamic groups in the world's most populous Muslim nation are also helping to protect churchgoers.

The Jemaah Islamiah network is blamed for at least five suicide bombings targeting Western interests since 2002 that have killed more than 240 people.

It is also accused in Christmas Eve church bombings five years ago that left 19 people dead.
