Opposition Candidate's Trial Is Postponed

IN BRIEF / EGYPT

July 07, 2005|From Times Wire Reports

A court postponed the forgery trial of Egypt's most prominent opposition presidential candidate until late September, almost certainly after the country's first contested election.

Ayman Nour has pleaded innocent to forging signatures to get his opposition party registered last year. Nour says the charges are fabricated and politically motivated.

A key witness against him recanted last week.
