Others at Texas Ranch Test Clean for Mad Cow

Sixty-seven cows from the herd of an animal infected with mad cow have tested negative for the disease, the Agriculture Department said.

Testing was conducted on two groups removed from the herd at an undisclosed ranch in Texas. The infected animal had spent its life at the ranch, the department said. The animal was not used for food.

One test indicated mad cow disease, but results from a second test were negative. Several months later, the department's inspector general ordered a test, which showed the disease. A series of tests at a British lab on June 24 confirmed the U.S.' second case of mad cow disease.
