Working With the GOP

Re "Bush Aide Prods Democrats," May 2: Andrew Card said the Republicans want more cooperation from the Democrats. The last time a Democrat (Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle) tried to work with the Republicans, he was attacked by the same Republicans with a well-funded and slightly unethical blitz and trounced in his reelection effort. If the Democrats were to try to work with the Republicans, who would be left to speak for the 50% of us who do not agree with the Republican conservative agenda? Democracy means free speech for all points of view. What part of the word "democracy" don't the Republicans understand?
