Vocalists win cash awards
Baritone Jordan Shanahan from Denver won the $12,000 first prize at the 33rd annual Loren L. Zachary Society National Vocal Competition finals Sunday at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in L.A.
Soprano Ailyn Perez of Philadelphia took the $10,000 second prize. New York tenor Russell Thomas won the $9,000 third prize.
An all-time high of $54,000 was awarded, including an $8,000 fourth prize to Los Angeles baritone Jason Switzer and a $7,000 fifth prize to Los Angeles soprano Angela Meade.
