Asian Senior Center Loses $100,000 Grant
The City Council revoked a $100,000 grant to expand the Asian American Senior Center following allegations of gambling.
Eleven seniors were arrested in June on suspicion of gambling at one of the centers, at 9880 Bolsa Ave.
The center’s president, Kathy Diep, has said police were unfairly targeting the elderly, who she said were not wagering.
After the unanimous vote Wednesday, council members said they revoked the grant because the center had not provided any services since the arrests.
