MOM washed the red sweater in Softee Soap and it felt all huggable and scrumptious. It looked different though. She was worried, but she hoped she was wrong.

"Arms up, little Sam," she said. "This won't be scratchy anymore."

"No," Sam said. "No, no, no. Skatchy!"

"Now, Sam!" Mom understood "No, no, no" and she didn't like it.

Sam saw she didn't like it. He held up his arms and Mom pulled the red rabbit sweater over his head. It was so soft and huggable and scrumptious.

Sam smiled. "Not skatchy!"

Mom put her hands over her mouth. "Oh, goodness," she said. "It shrunk. Now it's way too small. It doesn't even cover your tummy. What will we do?"

"Tickee tummy," Sam said hopefully.

So Mom tickled his tummy, and Sam laughed and laughed and Mom laughed too. But then she said: "This is sad. Grandma sent the red rabbit sweater all the way from San Francisco."

"Sad," Sam said.

When Dad came home Mom showed him the red rabbit sweater that scratched and then shrunk.

"We'll get another one, just the same," Dad said. "Grandma won't know the difference."

"But where will we find one?" Mom asked. "This is handmade. It came from San Francisco."

"The world is a small place," Dad said. "We'll look and look and look and we'll find one. Won't we, Sam?"

Sam didn't know. He was only 2.

Wednesday: Will they be able to find another red rabbit sweater just like the one from Grandma?
