Syria's parliament recommended that former Vice President Abdel-Halim Khaddam be tried for treason after he said that President Bashar Assad had threatened a former Lebanese prime minister months before he was assassinated.
The bill recommending the trial passed unanimously at the end of a daylong session. The measure was sent to the Justice Ministry so it could prepare a case against Khaddam.
