It's show time in the Big Apple

TAKE in a Broadway show or three on a theater tour of Manhattan that begins April 24.

The eight-night trip includes three new Broadway shows.

Actor and tour leader Stan Mazin said it was too early to tell what shows would be available during the tour, but if Chita Rivera's show "The Dancer's Life" was still playing, it would be on the itinerary. Mazin worked on the show "Bajour" in which Rivera starred in 1964.

"Jay Johnson is doing a show ['The Two and Only'] at the Helen Hayes Theater, and it's fabulous. We'll see that," he said.

The group will have lunch at the venerable Tavern on the Green restaurant; participants also will have time to do some shopping and sightseeing on their own in the city.

Cost: $1,975 per person, double occupancy ($625 single surcharge), including round-trip airfare from Los Angeles, hotel, some meals, show tickets and airport transfers.

An Arts and Crafts tour

STUDY the Arts and Crafts movement of 19th century Scotland on an eight-night trip that begins April 18.

The tour will explore the works of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the William Morris group and others in the Arts and Crafts movement, which strove to show the value of finely designed objects in an era of increasing industrialization and mass-produced items. The group will be joined by Arts and Crafts movement experts.

Participants will tour Queen's Cross Church and Mackintosh Hill House, both in Glasgow. They will visit Greywalls Hotel, a country house near Edinburgh designed by Edwin Lutyens in 1901. The home, which features a peaceful garden, has operated as a hotel since 1948.

Other sightseeing stops include the National Portrait Gallery and the Scottish Parliament Building in Edinburgh.

Cost: $3,595 per person, double occupancy ($575 single surcharge), including hotels, most meals, ground transportation, gratuities and service charges, and a $200 tax-deductible donation to the Foundation for the Study of the Arts and Crafts Movement at Roycroft Inc. Airfare to Glasgow from Los Angeles is not included.
