The afterglow

January 18, 2006|Elizabeth Snead

The true test of a party's hotness is its star power. Here's a quick who-got-who-and-where after Monday's Golden Globes award show.

In Style/Warner Bros.

Where: The Oasis. Think a cavernous blue-lighted disco space with spiky Geiger-esque red-glass tumor-lights.

Difficulty factor: Piece of cake. The best arrival viewing and a chance for fans to get autographs and take photos.

Star count: George Clooney. Charlize Theron with boyfriend Stuart Townsend. Other couples: William H. Macy and Felicity Huffman, Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe. Also Rachel Bilson with Mischa Barton, Jessica Biel, Natasha Henstridge, Natalie Portman.

Universal/Focus Features/NBC

Where: An elevator ride up to the hotel's garage rooftop.

Difficulty factor: Ten-minute to a half-hour wait.

Star count: Major points for Peter Jackson. Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams, Zach Braff with Mandy Moore. Also Eric Bana, Hugh Laurie, Matt Dillon, Luke Wilson.

Glamour/L'Oreal and the Weinstein Co.

Where: The old Miramax party spot in Trader Vic's, with a tented area decorated like a fairy-tale garden.

Difficulty factor: Tricky-to-find side hall leads to Trader Vic's.

Star count: Respectable. Scarlett Johansson, Mary-Louise Parker, Pierce Brosnan, Kevin Spacey, Mariah Carey, Maggie Grace, Colin Firth.

Memorable moment: By 11 p.m. a barefoot Sandra Oh was dancing spasmodically.

HBO

Where: The renovated Aqua Star Pool, poolside restaurant and outdoor tables.

Difficulty factor: Stern guards.

Star count: Larry David, the Hiltons, Cynthia Nixon, some "Rome" stars.

Fox Studios/Fox Network

Where: A long, sprawling eighth-floor suite with a cool skyline view.

Difficulty factor: No invite? No problem. C'mon in -- please.

Star count: Reese Witherspoon and Joaquin Phoenix, Kiefer Sutherland.
