Tenet's Request for Mistrial Is Denied

January 19, 2006|From Bloomberg News

A federal judge denied a Tenet Healthcare Corp. request for a mistrial in a San Diego criminal case over claims that a Tenet unit made illegal kickbacks to doctors.

Tenet sought a mistrial after a recently seated juror sent a note to Judge James Lorenz complaining that he felt rushed by other panelists. The juror was selected last month after another juror was removed. After rejecting Tenet's motion, Lorenz told jurors they should have restarted deliberations when the new juror was named.
