Domestic Violence Reports Down 7%

IN BRIEF/Los Angeles County / LOS ANGELES

June 21, 2006|From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Domestic violence reports are down 7% in the city so far this year from last, but a task force called Tuesday for the Police Department to expand the use of teams of counselors so that more women are encouraged to report the crimes.

The Los Angeles Domestic Violence Task Force members estimated that only 51% of domestic violence cases are reported.

Expanding the use of domestic abuse response teams to counsel and comfort victims in all 19 police divisions may result in more crimes being reported, the group said.
