Re "Mourners Recall an 'Original,' " March 7
As a native Angeleno, current resident of Oxnard, admirer and Times subscriber of many years, I was saddened by the death of Otis Chandler. I admired his humanity, abilities, sensibilities, stamina and vision. The country, the newspaper business and Californians are all better for his having walked among us.
As I stood on the beach at his memorial, I felt lucky that I lived during his time. His legacy will live forever.

It took Chandler 20 years to build The Times to greatness and barely five years for the Chicago gang to bring it down.
