Mauceri takes a new gig in N. Carolina
John Mauceri, music director of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, has been named chancellor of the North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, N.C., the school announced Friday. He will assume his new post July 1.
Mauceri, 60, will conclude his 16th season at the helm of the Bowl orchestra this summer with a fireworks program Sept. 15-17. He will then assume the new title of founding director and conduct the orchestra for selected concerts in coming seasons.
Established in 1963, the North Carolina School of the Arts has more than 1,000 students in its five schools of dance, design and production (including a visual arts program), drama, filmmaking and music.
