CHP Examines Man's Death in Freeway Crash

May 21, 2006|From Times Staff Reports

The California Highway Patrol is looking into the death of a driver whose stopped car was rear-ended on the Foothill Freeway in Monrovia early Saturday.

The 25-year-old man might have suffered a fatal head wound from flying metal debris in the crash, CHP Officer Edmund Zorrilla said.

But the CHP said it was awaiting the results of an autopsy to make sure the 25-year-old man was not shot.

Investigators found no cartridge casings in the area and no bullet holes in the 2005 Toyota Scion, which was on the westbound freeway near Myrtle Avenue when it was rear-ended by a Ford Explorer about 2:20 a.m. Both motorists were alone in their cars and the Explorer's driver was not hurt and not charged with any violations, Zorrilla said.
