Reduce DWP contract

May 21, 2006

Re "Dowie, Aide Guilty on All Counts in Bill Scam," May 17

Maybe it's just me, but does anyone know why the L.A. Department of Water and Power -- which has a captive client base and is constantly threatening rationing when its supplies periodically shrink -- has an annual $3-million public relations budget? I acknowledge that most public entities have a long history of rewarding campaign contributors with "do-nothing" contracts, but couldn't the city reduce this contract by, say, 50%, and save taxpayers $1.5 million annually? Just wondering.
