The Hollywood Foreign Press Assn., bestower of the Golden Globe awards, has placed 11-year-old Abigail Breslin in the lead actress nomination category for "Little Miss Sunshine" and "Dreamgirls" scene-stealer Jennifer Hudson in the supporting category, association officials revealed Wednesday.

Beyonce Knowles will look for a nomination as lead actress for "Dreamgirls," and Cate Blanchett will vie for a nod in the supporting category for "Notes on a Scandal."

Oscar categories: A Quick Takes item in the Nov. 23 Calendar section said film studios and producers decide which Academy Award category actors will be entered in. While they do suggest categories in ads, the decision is made solely by the individual members of the academy's actors branch at the time that they fill out their ballots.

Unlike with the Academy Awards, for which the studios or producers decide what category an actor will enter, Hollywood Foreign Press officials make the decisions for the Globes.

Meanwhile, "Venus" and "The History Boys" were deemed to be dramas, so Peter O'Toole and Richard Griffiths are competing for lead actor nominations.

Nominations will be announced Dec. 14.
