September 18, 2006|From a Times Staff Writer

Costa Mesa police Sunday identified the victim of a likely road rage shooting and are seeking information.

Duane Kressin, 28, of Costa Mesa was hospitalized in critical condition after being shot in the chest during an argument on the Del Mar Avenue offramp of the Costa Mesa Freeway about 5:45 p.m. Saturday, police said.

The alleged shooter was in a dark red Ford F-150 with a decal-covered camper shell and American and Israeli flags on the rear. The late-model pickup had a personalized Oregon license plate containing the letters A, M, G and E, police said.

The pickup's driver cut off the car Kressin was a passenger in, stopped in front of it, and then shot Kressin after words were exchanged. The shooter was described as white, about 5 feet 11, 250 to 300 pounds. He has short gray hair and is in his 40s, police said. Anyone with information is asked to call (714) 754-5255 or (714) 754-5197.
