Baby Loves Jazz: Go Baby Go!

Verve Music Group

CD: $9.97; ages 1 to 6

Noted jazz artists -- among them keyboardist John Medeski (Medeski, Martin & Wood), soul singer Sharon Jones of the Dap Kings and trumpeter Steven Bernstein, leader of experimental jazz band Sex Mob -- add sizzle and funk to familiar nursery rhymes in this effervescent treat of an album. With additional tracks that highlight various jazz instruments, it's the first release in a "Baby Loves Music" series of CDs created by Andy Blackman Hurwitz. The CDs will be released in conjunction with companion children's books published by Price Stern Sloan.

Suddenly Summer!

Thunderbunny Music

CD: $14.95; ages 4 to 9

With his humorous dad vibe and bouncy pop, rock and jazz rhythms, Danna Banana ("Daddy-O") celebrates the pleasures of the season. Listeners can reminisce about the 4th of July, baseball, learning to ride a two-wheeler, a trip to the beach and "Doin' Nothin' " at all. Highlights include the joyous title track ("Now I'm free, look at me! I can tickle tickle toes in the bay, ride my bike or do what I like"); "Three Small Steps," where life is never dull; a wistful lullaby ("Summer Somewhere"); and "Run Around," playfully recognizing those times when a little kid just can't sit still ("I can be real quiet, like you want me to ... but -- all I want to do is run around!").
