Abbas Accuses Hamas of Reversing Unity Plan

Accusing the Islamic militant group Hamas of backtracking, moderate Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said his efforts to set up a unified government acceptable to the West were "back to zero."

Hamas officials suggested that Abbas had oversold the emerging coalition between them and his Fatah group as more conciliatory toward Israel than it was meant to be. But Hamas, which plans to meet again with Abbas on Monday, said a deal could still be struck.
